College Basketball Odds: No. 1 Indiana at No. 10 Ohio State

Indiana Hoosiers (1) at Ohio St Buckeyes (10)

Fresh off a stunning loss at Illinois that will cost Indiana the No. 1 ranking in the polls on Monday, the Hoosiers look to avoid their first losing streak of the season as well as stay atop the Big Ten then whey visit Ohio State on Sunday.

Indiana became the fifth straight top-ranked men’s college basketball team to lose, falling to unranked Illinois 74-72 on a buzzer-beater by Tyler Griffey on Thursday night. The senior forward took an inbounds pass with 0.9 seconds to play and made a wide-open layup. The Hoosiers (20-3, 8-2 Big Ten) were in charge until the final 3 1/2 minutes when the Illini (16-8, 3-7 Big Ten) finally put together a run to take and then retake the lead.

Hoosiers guard Jordan Hulls said flatly that the top rank had nothing to do with Thursday’s loss, even for a team that some worried might be looking past unranked, slumping Illinois to a meeting with No. 10 Ohio State. Cody Zeller led Indiana with 14 points, while Will Sheehey had 13. The No. 1 team in the AP poll has lost six times this season. Indiana has done it twice, with both defeats by two points,

Indiana shot 50 percent from the floor, 52.9 percent from 3-point range, and 92.9 percent from the FT line. Since the 1996-97 season, Indiana is just the 7th No. 1 team to lose when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor. No top-ranked team had lost over that span when shooting at least 50 percent from long range, nor had a No. 1 team lost when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the free throw line.

Ohio State enters off a 76-74 overtime loss at No. 3 Michigan on Tuesday, a win that could send the Wolverines back to the top of the polls. Aaron Craft’s last two shots in overtime were blocked — one by Trey Burke, and the next by Tim Hardaway right under the basket. Deshaun Thomas scored 17 points for the Buckeyes. Ohio State shot 51.7 percent from the field (30-58). It was only the second time this season a Big Ten team has shot over 50 percent vs. the Wolverines (Indiana, 52 percent).

This is the first of two meetings this season. As a ranked team (AP), No. 10 Ohio State is 443-121 all-time. When ranked among the Top 10 nationally, OSU is 316-71. OSU coach Thad Matta is 10-6 all-time against Indiana. The two schools split last year, each winning at home.
